The FDA recently ordered a recall of two lots of Viagra 50mg pills, but it seems like they’ve reached an agreement on a new drug lot for Viagra.
A new Viagra lot was announced Tuesday by the FDA. The agency issued a press release saying it is “the most complete recall of the medication.”
The drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, which includes impotence, is sold under the brand name Viagra. The new lot is being sold under the brand name Sildenafil 50mg.
The FDA says it is “notifying the manufacturer of this product’s recall.”
In a statement, Pfizer said the company is working with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to remove the lot from the market.
The recall is likely because of the drug’s use in a serious form called pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), meaning it can cause high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs.
The FDA is also working with the FDA’s regulatory agency to take action to prevent the drug from being made into counterfeit Viagra.
The FDA is advising consumers not to buy or use the Viagra lot. Consumers should exercise caution and be careful when buying and using the lot, and before using it in combination with nitrates, drugs used to treat angina or chest pain, or any other heart-related conditions.
Pfizer Inc. (Pfizer) and its distributors, Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Inc. (Teva), Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Inc. (Teva) Inc., are manufacturing the lot with the word “S” on it, as well as the expiration date.As of Nov. 9, 2013, the FDA has not identified the number of recalled lots or the number of affected lots that could be impacted.
Pfizer, Teva, Teva and others have not made any statement on how to identify impacted lots of Viagra 50mg that they are voluntarily recalling.
A recall of the Sildenafil lot is still in the works, but it appears that the affected lots are now being recalled.
